  My go to since 2005! You can always tell a good Caribbean restaurant if they have jerk chicken on the grill... side note: if a Caribbean restaurant prepared jerk chicken in the oven, RUN!!!

  My first Jamaican dining experience in Jacksonville and it was better than I could have asked for. I love how curry and spices vary from culture to culture. The staff at Star's was very sweet and welcoming, and even laughed at my terrible jokes (Maybe because I was giving them business? I don't know, but I like to think I'm funny.)
  
  The venue doesn't try to be flashy. Their focus seems to be on quality service and delectable dishes -- and it's evident. I'm glad I've learned not to judge a business by its cover, because years ago I would only walk into something familiar like a chain or that had "cool branding" (Yes, I was stupid. My close friends reading this might think, "Uh, was??" You know who you are.)
  
  The chicken fell off the bone. The Jerk Chicken was just the right amount of rude. The curry was perfectly spicy. I left full and happy and needed to tell you about this place.
  
  The takeaway? Go. Now. Order a meal to-go while you're at it because the aftermath cravings will kick in.

  I was searching for the best Jamaican restaurants in Jacksonville and saw this small gem. It was a little out my way however I stopped by for a late afternoon lunch when I was on that side of town. I got a small portion of the oxtails with rice and peas, with sweet plantains as a side. Food was delicious! The oxtails were well seasoned and falling off the bones, and though the plantains were too blacken, I enjoyed my meal overall. The only major negative was that they did not have any Jamaican patties which is a major pet peeve I have with Carribean restaurants. If it's on the menu, it should be available.

  I have heard great things about this place so I placed a large order of Jerk Chicken which came out to $25.57 with a tip. When I received the $25 worth of chicken it was tiny AND the menu board said a large was $15. I try not to be that customer so I just asked if that was all the chicken and they said yes with a solid attitude. This is the type of place that charges customers whatever they can get away with and while the jerk chicken was good, it's still not worth being ripped off. I should have gone somewhere else and I definitely will next time.
  
  Also, the music was really loud in there, I could barely hear myself speak and I had to get the staffs attention when they were staring right at me AND I was the only person in there besides my son. This is definitely the place you should go to if you want bad service and feel like getting ripped off otherwise stay away.
